A very fine story about a cat.

Millie – Our Cool School Cat

Millie is a cat. Not an ordinary cat. The only ordinary thing about Millie is that she lives with a family. The Brownie Family. The Brownie family live next door to Fendalton School. Every morning when the Brownie children head off to school Millie wants to be like everyone else and go to school too.
So she packs her school bag. She opens up her blankie and puts in her kittly-scrumbly-chunks and a little bottle of milk and wraps them up and heads off to school. She joins in classes and is a great listener.

Millie spends a lot of time in the principal’s office. Not because she is naughty, but because she absolutely loves our Principal, Cheryl Doig. Millie loves to snuggle into Cheryl even at Cheryl’s grumpiest of times. Millie also bats her paw on Cheryl’s dangly earrings. This always cheers Cheryl up.

Millie likes school so much that sometimes she goes in the evening just before it is all locked up. One evening she went into Cheryl’s office but Cheryl wasn’t there so Millie decided to wait for her. She curled up on Cheryl’s chair and went to sleep. When she woke up it was very dark and quiet so she jumped up onto the desk to look out the window. This set the alarm off. The next minute she saw the police. She was not at all frightened as she was no ordinary cat. The police had a good look around and soon found Millie. The policeman yelled out ‘I’ve found the burglar over here. It’s a cat burglar!!’ He took Millie outside so she could go home. ‘Off you go, you dizzy cat.’

But Millie is not just a cat burglar, she is also a hero. One Monday morning Millie saw smoke coming out of the school village building. Within a minute Millie was well aware of the danger. She knew she needed to let everyone know. She started to meow loudly and brush herself against the legs of Mr McKinnel the caretaker. “What are you up to you dizzy cat?’ asked Mr McKinnell. ‘Do you want me to follow you?’ Millie meowed even louder and Mr McKinnell followed her to where he could smell smoke. Then the alarms went off. Mr McKinnell called the fire brigade and all the children assembled outside on the courts. Thanks to Millie no-one was hurt!!

Millie is a stylish cat. One night, when the school PTA held a “What To Wear” fundraising evening, Millie could not resist going. She was already in her very fashionable clothes (her beautiful fur coat). She headed off to the evening. When the host asked for some models Millie was up there as quick as a flash strutting in front of the audience. She was great!! Everybody clapped except the Head of the PTA. She just shook her head and said, ‘that dizzy cat!’

Millie has a great relationship with Cheryl. But one day Cheryl decided it was time to go. Millie knew she would miss her. The PTA held a farewell party for Cheryl with lots of people coming to say goodbye, and of course, Millie came too. Lots of the people gave speeches and Millie gave some sad meows. At the end of the evening Millie’s Mum, Mrs Brownie, took Millie home but there was no going home for Millie. She wouldn’t give up. She just kept coming back again.

She is no dizzy cat. She’s a burglar, a hero, a model and a great friend. She is our cool, school cat.
This story is based on a true story.
